Northern Cargo Association

About

Northern Cargo is a shippers association located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We were established and incorporated in 1950, by a group of retail and wholesale merchants who wanted relief from the excessive freight charges on their LTL shipments. They started consolidating their shipments and were able to accomplish their goal. Today, savings of 75% – 80% are commonplace on shipments from Georgia and Los Angeles. Northern Cargo is a not-for-profit association and operates strictly as a shippers association.

Northern Cargo handles over 50 million pounds of LTL freight annually for over 250 companies who are located in Minnesota, the Dakotas, and Western Wisconsin. All shipments are consolidated and forwarded, via contract truckload carriers, into the Twin Cities where the shipments are broken down at our warehouse. These shipments are either distributed or placed on Will Call at our dock. We offer direct vendor pick-ups, including volume or half-trailer loads from any of our consolidation points, and from any intermediate point between our consolidations and the Twin Cities.

Northern Cargo offers multiple daily releases from Dalton, Georgia and weekly releases from Los Angeles. Transit time varies from 2-3 days from Dalton to 3-4 days from Los Angeles. To protect the members’ shipments, we only use reputable ICC approved irregular route carriers. We provide personalized service to all of our members and we do not charge for any services that we do not perform.

Northern Cargo carries transportation insurance for the protection of our members’ freight. All claims are settled promptly. Our office / warehouse is located in Northeast Minneapolis, with excellent access to Interstate 35W and Highway 280. We are equipped to handle all non-hazardous shipments (no perishable or liquor) in our 69 door, 26,000 square foot terminal.
