First Choice was founded in September 2001 by Carla Luig in her own home. Carla Luig, President and Chief Executive Officer of First Choice Transport in Fort Worth, will never forget the day she started her trucking and transportation business.
Carla was born and raised in rural Arlington, TX. Number four of six girls, she was the tomboy of the family and from an early age began to develop her core, life experiences of faith, family, hard work, pure grit and determination. She entered the United States Army to serve her country after witnessing and being inspired by the “shock and awe” of the US military in Operation Desert Storm. The Army was the origination for her interest and eventual love of transportation and logistics. After her service to her country, she sought employment in the field of distribution, which included working for Zenith Electronics, Pier 1 Imports and Conway Truckload. After deciding to take her professional life to the next level, she started First Choice Transport and the company’s first load was scheduled to be picked up in Fort Worth, TX in the early morning hours. The date was Sept. 11, 2001. Despite the tragedy and ensuing confusion and apprehension of that fateful day, the load was delivered and thus began the realization of a true American dream.
Today, almost 20 years later, the trucking enterpise has grown from two employees to a combined workforce of approximately one-hundred. With a healthy balance of company drivers and Independent Contractors, First Choice Transport has experienced steady growth and ongoing success and continues to evolve and thrive in the fast-paced and ever-changing world of distribution and logistics.
